Was going to take the weekend off but Friday was a good day so decided to try again on Saturday to see if the lucky run would continue. I’ve gone with Laura from Russia below for the headline shot.  The Queen of the crop with Roses as a crown. She’s got it “going on” and I like her style. Her friend is just as good and is further below.

Used the LFW HQ known as the BFC Show Space as the patrol base with The Brewer Street Car Park and Golden Sq with all streets surrounding and in between which seemed to be producing the goods yesterday.

On Saturday names such as Julien Macdonald, Sibling, Holly Fulton and Gareth Pugh were being showcased at the Brewer St Car Park LFW central area. Certainly enough names there to pull in the fashionistas. Could have easily photographed 50 in the 3 or  so hours I was there but in my opinion these 10 were the cream of the crop and something I wouldn’t see everyday whilst walking around the streets of London. Gone with quality rather than quantity, don’t see the point otherwise considering what I do week in week out!

Criteria as usual was eye catching or something different with hair,bags and shoes along with colour usage being the predominant things being looked for. Of course beauty edges into the mix as well and sometimes can knock an average look into the stratosphere

Jamie  O’Hare of ISSA was asked “What does great style mean to you?”. The answer was

Great style is about confidence. I can see a T Shirt and jeans as being stylish as an evening dress if it is worn with conviction. I think people who understand and embrace what suits them best tend to convey the best style

Was there from about just before ten till lunchtime when it started chucking it down so called it a day as it didn’t look like it was going to improve.

The Felder Felder show was broadcast live on screen in Golden Square. Had a quick watch for ten minutes. Black and Pink featured strongly throughout that show.

A drastic cut down on which fashionistas are being photographed this year. You’ve got to be good and bringing something different to the table that I don’t see on the streets of London that I can photograph any day of the week. Either that or there is something exceptional going on in the looks department or both.

Fashionistas Name and where they are from included with the photo where available. All shots shot with the camera to the eye as in normal with a couple from the hip just to see the difference in quality that it makes to a picture when you can line everything up, take your time and get them posing just right.

Blonde Multicoloured and monochrome platforms Rathbone Place W1

This is a pre LFW article and a day earlier than usual as a result of an event that is taking place at an “iconic car park” in Central London starting Friday 18th September and finishing Tuesday 22 September. Not sure what it’s all about but will take a look and check it out.

Latest rovings in the West End looking out for trends and the gathering pace of colour shift on the streets with shades of red and shades of brown doing battle, olive green also seems to be popping up. Monochrome is still out there but as more of a base. Faded denim and tartan also seem to be popping up increasingly. Pink is hotly tipped as the next big thing. Not an overabundance of that on the streets when I was out.

A certain London paper reckons autumnal reds such as burgundy, maroon and brighter reds will be making a big appearance. Not much on my radar yet from what I’m sating. Early September and there is evidence on the streets of London that the schools are now back (some), the buzz seems to be returning and London’s pulse is starting to increase in readiness for back to normal next week.

Monochrome seems to be waning a bit on the streets but black combined with some sort of shade of brown appears to be emerging as the new colour combo. Tan, putty, mushroom, oatmeal, magnolia, camel basically the mid to lighter shades of brown. Rusty shades of red or brown with deeper darker oranges are also springing into life. This was observed in the West End but confirmed also in Knightsbridge, Kensington and Chelsea. Doesn’t look to be a passing one off coincidence, it’s spreading and spreading fast. Black is still there though!

Not much sun on this particular fashion patrol so shutter speeds were down even with a high ISO on a couple of shotswhich  have slight blurring but have been included as otherwise they are good shots.

Red Head Monochrome and Hat and Tan Covent Garden WC2

Areas covered were the usual Oxford Street, Regent Street, Mayfair, Soho, Piccadilly, Covent Garden inc Piazza, Marble Arch and all streets in between. Busy main streets, quiet side streets, tourists, commuters and locals even some models on a fashion shoot.  Giving you the RAW street style as it’s happening with no posed shots and not a word was said.

Here’s my analysis of what is “going down” in street style terms in the West End of London for June.

1. Monochrome is definitely in with black, white and shades of grey being cool.
2. Flats are very much in, brogues, sneakers and slip ons
3. Horizontal stripes are a defo. If in monochrome all the better.
4. Jeans and leggings with ripped knees. A must. More rips even better. Distressed also rocks
5. Sophisticated shades are essential.
6. Monochrome bold prints seem to be popular.
7. Gypsy style maxi dress or skirts seem to be increasingly making an appearance.
8. Block heels are a yes but at the other extreme stilettos are also making themselves known

Decided to take it out anyway for a spin and a test drive today to see if it’s a keeper just for a laugh to see what this lens can do and more importantly see how the women react to a lens the size of a house pointing in their direction?

Monochrome and stripes. Outside Selfridges Oxford St W1 Canon DSLR 300mm lens

The results were interesting to put it mildly but I wasn’t getting as many smiles as with my small dinky wide angle lens. Come to think of it didn’t get any smiles at all. Tension was definitely in the air. As soon as that camera was raised they notice even when you’re 100m down the road. Frosty stares are the result. How do they do that!

Despite the lens getting the general thumbs down and a frosty reception on the female front on the streets of London, it gets a thumbs up from me producing some nice arty blurred backgrounds (bokeh). Makes a change from the wide angle shots. Bokeh is not really my thing when shooting on the streets as what you gain in arty smoky backgrounds you lose in Street vibe. Street vibe is more important to me but these shots sure do look pretty.

This lens may get used from time to time for street style shooting but standing half mile down the road and popping a shot is not really my style, I prefer the more intimate in your face approach. The shots look more connected and I think the women prefer the cards on the table approach rather than the sly hand tactics that scream stalker alert.

If these shots generate interest there will be more in the future. The lens passed the test bar some flare issues when shooting into the sun. See photos.

So who is the headline grabber for this edition. There’s always one that stands out head and shoulders above the rest a sort of no contest scenario. The punky green hair fashionista below outside Joe and the Juice in my opinion stole the show on the day. She’s got guts and confidence, I’ll give her that, she would fit in a treat at Camden Market.

Took her photo, don’t think she even realised then she asked me where the nearest taxi rank was a second later of which I didn’t have the first idea. Luckily a black cab appeared with light on just down the road and  I said “there’s your cab”. I don’t think she realised yellow light on means available.

Third fashionista that had an air of mystery is this oriental fashionista with hat and leopard print sneekers outside Selfridges. Another head turner that stood out from the crowd.

Had a run in with one fashionista who asked me “why are you taking my picture?” in an aggressive manner, I replied “It’s for a fashion website”, she replied in a snappy manner “you could at least ask!”. So thinking better delete that one……. only to find she’s grinning like the cat that got the cream in the photo. So she’s here!
