Emerging colour trend? Black Leather and Burgundy and Shades of Brown and Hat Camden Market NW1

The patrol route took in Camden Tube, Camden Rd up to Sainsbury’s, Parkway, Camden High St, Camden Market, Camden Lock and The Stables Market and Chalk Farm Rd. Sounds a lot but it’s quite a compact area compared to some areas covered. After 3+ hours the required quota was reached of about  a dozen. That’s quick. Started clouding over just as I packed up which was perfect!

No punky fashionistas, some grunge and a dash of vintage. Thankfully the tourist levels were visibly down and the density of fashionistas was up, a vast improvment and much better than my last visit which was more like a visit to Disney World in the peak holiday season.

A mixture of shots here just looking for emerging trends of the more alternative variety, any colour shifts from the slowly fading but still prominent mononochrome fever which was even still prevalent at LFW. Also a couple of shots of what seems to be common on the London streets that’s seems to be increasingly adopted by the masses.

Same critieria applies as the previous days, something outstanding, something interesting, something different, some style, some panache and some beauty and that extra something that lifts up from the rest of the crowd. Gone with Victoria from Manchester above for the headline shot, she posed up with ease and she certainly has it “going on”. Nothing revolutionary here, monochrome in different shades but it’s how it’s put together and how it’s carried with confidence which makes the whole ensemble rock.

My summary of those factors included below. Some fashionistas have names as they stopped, others have none as they were on the move. Lot of fasharazzi at this event as you would expect. Some shots were taken “in the swarm” most were taken away from the snappers. The difference is blindingly apparent!

Was going to take the weekend off but Friday was a good day so decided to try again on Saturday to see if the lucky run would continue. I’ve gone with Laura from Russia below for the headline shot.  The Queen of the crop with Roses as a crown. She’s got it “going on” and I like her style. Her friend is just as good and is further below.

Used the LFW HQ known as the BFC Show Space as the patrol base with The Brewer Street Car Park and Golden Sq with all streets surrounding and in between which seemed to be producing the goods yesterday.

On Saturday names such as Julien Macdonald, Sibling, Holly Fulton and Gareth Pugh were being showcased at the Brewer St Car Park LFW central area. Certainly enough names there to pull in the fashionistas. Could have easily photographed 50 in the 3 or  so hours I was there but in my opinion these 10 were the cream of the crop and something I wouldn’t see everyday whilst walking around the streets of London. Gone with quality rather than quantity, don’t see the point otherwise considering what I do week in week out!

Criteria as usual was eye catching or something different with hair,bags and shoes along with colour usage being the predominant things being looked for. Of course beauty edges into the mix as well and sometimes can knock an average look into the stratosphere

Jamie  O’Hare of ISSA was asked “What does great style mean to you?”. The answer was

Great style is about confidence. I can see a T Shirt and jeans as being stylish as an evening dress if it is worn with conviction. I think people who understand and embrace what suits them best tend to convey the best style

Gone with the fashionista above for the headline shot, she was the last photo of the day, saw her 500 metres down the road. Think she saw me and the camera as well. Very simple in colour terms and minimalist but never the less very striking with the flat cap giving it that finishing touch. Very individual and definetly a FASHIONISTA!

Late July and August turns quiet in London with the school holidays. Tourists in abundance and I mean by the coach loads at present but actual fashionistas will prove to be a bit thinner on the ground.

Tuesday was spent in London Fields and Dalston to check out the fashion vibe there to get off the tourist trail in Central London. Just a flying visit and a big fat zero. It’s supposed to be the new place to be, better than Shoreditch, I wasn’t convinced. Maybe I was in the wrong part? Maybe the weekends are better or maybe it rocks more at night when everybody is back from work?

Wednesday went all the way down to Richmond and again zilch. Tried Chiswick on the way back and again nothing. Peckham is another area that is being looked into which is hipsterville at present, amongst others, but at present Central London up to Zone 2 on the Tube Map is where it seems to be. Go beyond that and the dress code is safe and follow the norm and the suburbia look. No earth shattering ground breaking stuff here. The difference was staggering when you arrive back in Knightsbridge, Kensington and Chelsea.

Took about 20 shots on the day but ruthlessly cut it down to 9 to what I would call “fashionistas” on what was a quiet day in “street style” terms. Women looking at their mobiles has been kept to a minimum but it’s surprising how common it is.

The patrol route was Camden Tube, Camden Market, Camden Lock, Camden Stables and back plus Parkway, Camden High St and around the Sainsbury’s area of Camden Road. It really was a manic blitzing session as had limited time this week due to other engagements. Results considering the limited time are incredibly good.

The Camden Street Style Special. The June 2015 edition. The plan was to hit Camden Town on Thursday and Friday, shoot over 2 days but with the weather looking unpredictable on Friday, that day was abandoned so the result is just a few shots from Thursday.

You’ve got to be in a creative mood when you go to Camden and you have to immerse yourself into it’s vibe otherwise you come away with shots from the outside looking in instead of “shots from the inside”.

A quick half hour walk around and not much was happening in fashionista terms as it was getting busy with tourists in their tourist uniform in abundance.. Desperately needed some inspiration.

Then out of nowhere saw this street art (above) painted on the side of a house. Literally the size of a house. . Shades my man try Shades it screamed!!!!. Shades and head shots it is with the emphasis on sunglasses, funky hairstyles and hats shot landscape style to capture a bit more of the urban environment. Of course with a dash of the regular full length shots in portrait style to add a bit of variety.

An Alice in Wonderland tourist style last shot (they are there everyday) to finish the proceedings. This collection is Part 1. Will be heading back to do a Part 2 later this month.

NB in the true spirit of street photography all photos are as is, as in unposed moments. Not a word was said on my part to any of these women.

Finished this 3 or so hours photo session by sitting down on the street with a growing crowd listening to a busker that was incredibly good at Camden Lock.

Spent a couple of days floating around South Kensington, The Brompton Road, Harrods, The Kings Road and Sloane St and Sloane Square. So what’s the vibe on the streets in Knightsbridge, Kensington and Chelsea? To sum up, monochrome, flats, draping is still in, block heels, saw a few stilettos, shades of the coloured mirror variety and distressed denim and leggings with ripped knees. Hats were lacking. Horizontal stripes are cool and abundant. Gilets are still in, Maxi long flowing skirts also seemed to be making an increasing appearance.

Headline girl was this blonde walking over Westminster Bridge with Big Ben as a backdrop. This was a shot that was more planned and waited for which is not normally my style, I’m more the spontaneous shooter of the knee jerk variety. As soon as I saw this lady marching up the road I just knew this was the headline shot and “That’s my girl”. She’s not a tourist, she’s on a mission and is a Londoner no doubt. Looks like she could be sans make up as well and she still rocks that look.

Have to say I wasn’t expecting much on this Victoria and Westminster visit. Just a lot of jeans and trainers and jackets of the more homogeneous variety. Dull office workers and bland tourists with cameras and those incredibly annoying selfie sticks. How wrong I was. This area will definitely be a regular. Arguably better than Oxford St with some spectacular backdrops.

These latest photos are from a quick visit to Camden Town whilst covering the areas of Camden High St, Camden Road, near Camden tube and of course the all important Camden market. About 4 hours in total with a 1 hour lunch break in Chalcot Sq NW1 in Primrose Hill in the private gardens in the middle of the square. A very nice part of the world!

Headline girl for this shoot was the mirror shades and skyscraper heel ankle boots above chilling out on a cycle stand next to a recycle bin outside Sainbury’s on the Camden Rd. The sun was catching her hair real good. Couldn’t resist. She seemed up for being snapped as well. Result!

Set myself  a tough agenda for this day. Was on the look out for something a bit different to what you get down say Knightsbridge or Kings Road in Chelsea or Oxford St/Regent St. Fashionistas that are bit more Urban, Gritty, Punky and Grungy were the words leaping into my brain.

The look required was more a sort of middle finger to the establishment and pushing those boundaries a bit with tattoos, piercings, strange hair colouring, big boots, grunge, unconventional hair styles, funky jewellery or just wearing ordinary gear but having that alternative swagger and attitude that Camden is renowned for. No Top Shop, Zara, Gap or Next here…….. with the greatest respect to those brands. I can get those shots down the West End any day of the week.

Loads of attractive women at Camden market, could have taken 200 or so pictures of tourists with mid riffs aplenty, but something different was required from this visit instead of your bog standard shades, top, jeans or leggings and sneakers ensemble. In short I was looking for fashion guts, something that the vast majority would be terrified to try, would look ridiculous or maybe wouldn’t be able to walk in without hanging on railings for support. I was looking for that fashion beyond fashion that never goes out of fashion because it’s so out on the edge.

The results of this bar raising fashionista spotting excercise that can only be done in Camden is below. Only 10 caught my eye on the day and made the grade!
